According to the newspaper, the Czech Republic ranked among the top thirty most popular tourist locality in the world last year. Millions of tourists come regularly to the Czech Republic for historical monuments, culture, well-known cuisine and the Czech beer. Nevertheless, we can see in the long-term one additional trend and that is foreigners who travel to the Czech Republic for medical procedures.
The price is decisive.
Medical (T)ourism used to be done by people from less developed countries into states with higher level of medical care. Today, another trend prevails. People from developed countries travel for medical intervention to states where the level of health services is comparable but the price is considerably lower. Over the coming years an increase of medical tourism of people from the most advanced economies is expected. According to the CzechTourism agency one of the main reasons is the long-term rising cost of home health care in the country, guarantee of excellence and safety of medical care in various countries around the world and a readiness to travel for medicine which is less costly.
