Orthopaedics in the Czech Republic

Orthopaedics as one of the main fields of surgery has a long tradition in the Czech Republic. Thanks to many prominent medical personalities, it has kept pace with the rest of the world over the course of the last decades.
Present-day Czech orthopaedics is fully comparable with all of Europe’s top centres. Not just extensive reconstructive and replacement surgery, but also kind mini-invasive endoscopic methods are already standard practice.
The Central European Educational Centre for Arthroscopy was opened in Czech Republic and also it was in the Czech Republic where the first in Central and Eastern Europe the latest mini-invasive method during hip-joint replacement surgery (using a mere 5 - 8 cm incision) were used. This method is extensively applied in orthopaedics and allows the patient, together with intensive and qualified rehabilitation, to quickly return to performing routine activities which include sport.
